Kitchen Hutch Remodel Redo

A few years ago we did a Kitchen Hutch Remodel on a hutch we found on Craigslist. We painted the hutch a cream color and it went really well with our kitchen and worked great for storage. During the move however it got a little beat up by our movers (aka my husband and father in law). But that's okay because it was time to update the hutch anyway.

The above left picture is the hutch when we got it, the right is the finished cream hutch at our old house. We replaced the hideous plastic door covers with metal netting. You can get the full update on this original kitchen hutch remodel here.

I painted the updated hutch a pale yellow. It goes really well with our kitchen and all of the other colors in it. I am really happy with the pale yellow hutch now. I thought about going bold with it but it just wasn't going to work with the rest of the kitchen. 

This picture shows the pale yellow much better. I also love that the yellow makes the details stand out so much better on the woodwork. This hutch was really designed so well and has amazing details. 

So what do you think about my pale yellow kitchen hutch remodel redo? Haha it's kind of a mouth full but it seemed appropriate. This big beauty was kind of a handful when we were moving here.

DIY Collage Wall

After getting married we moved to a new town and a new house. One of my most favorite things to do after moving is to decorate. I love unpacking all of our decorations and putting things up. This makes it feel like home so much quicker then almost anything else you can do. So in this house like in our old one I decided to put up a collage wall.

My best advice for putting up a collage wall is to find a center piece and make that the focal point. My center piece is a large sign I found a few years ago that I really loved. It is a good size and it gives the wall some structure.

From there I laid out all of the pieces I for sure wanted to use on the wall and then some extra one's that I could use also to fill in. This gave me a pretty good idea of what to put up and how to make things balance on both sides.

I like to use a variety of signs, crosses, pictures, and canvas art that I have for my collage wall. This gives the wall a nice variety and gives you the option to mix in your accent colors. I always try to find a couple of fun colors I can mix in on the whole wall that go with my room.

The best advice I can give you is to just stare at your wall and start with one piece. Then I add to each side until I think the wall looks complete. This isn't the best way I'm sure but its how my brain works. I need to see things up on the wall and sometimes this means that things get moved around and we have a few extra holes in the wall but that's how life is.

So this is my advice on having a collage wall, just go for it and if you have a few extra holes you can blame it on me and creativity!

How to Make Boutonniere's

A few weeks ago I shared how to Make Your Own Wedding Bouquet so today I am going to share how I also made my own Boutonniere's for the groomsmen.  Now I'm going to share the easy slightly redneck way that I made these flowers and you are going to be like well that was simple anyone could do that. Well that's the truth, these are super easy and anyone can do it.

The first thing I did was decide what colors I wanted my flowers to be. Our wedding colors are blue and a pale yellow so I bought a bunch/bushel of blue and pale yellow hydrangeas. Then I picked off the bunches and cut them in half. I didn't want these to be very big but that is a personal preference.

After I did this with the blue and yellow I played around with the arrangements until I figured out exactly how I wanted them to be. Then I did exactly the same thing as my bouquets. I duck taped them together. I wrapped it around the stem and made sure not to go to high so the flowers could move around some. 

After the duck tape I took glue dots and ribbon and wrapped the ribbon around the parts that were duck taped. After making one I decided that I wanted the base part to be a little thicker so I just did a few layers of duck tape under the ribbon to add some thickness. The ribbon I used is exactly the same as the ribbon on the bridesmaid bouquets its just the thinner version. I wanted them to look slightly uniformed. 

See the one on the right, its a little thicker and I liked that better. This was SUPER easy, I'm not kidding it took me like 15 minutes after I figured out how I wanted my flowers arranged to make all of them. 

I have found a slight problem with these though. You have to be careful where you pin the boutonniere through the base. If you go in the middle or too low then the pin will get stuck. It can't make it through the duck tape. But as long as you pin them at the top then you are golden. 

Here is all of my boutonniere's for the wedding! We are only doing them for the groomsmen, we decided against making them for our parents and grandparents. This made things super simple and fast.

WW- Let the Games Begin

Last week on Wedding Wednesday we talked about the party and how you are going to feed or not feed your guest at the reception. To catch up on all the previous Wedding Wednesday's you can read them here. One thing we also talked about was dancing at your reception and how this can be a major expense. So today I'm going to share with you a few different games that could also be available at your reception for people who don't like to dance or as an alternative all together to dancing.

As it's known in the south, Corn Hole is a very popular game and like the above boards show you could easily customize these for your big day. This is a fun game that many people can play and you can really enjoy it while hanging out with friends.

Most of us remember this game from our childhoods. It is stressful and takes critical thinking, but it is also a lot of fun to play and looks super easy to make on your own. You could easily customize this to your wedding colors and have this match the theme of your wedding.

The ring toss is an American favorite. It is something that we have all tried at a fair or carnival and tried to win a goldfish. This would also be very easy to customize in your wedding colors and also to make a bigger version then the one above. This would be fun to set up and see if people could make a little competition of who can get the most rings on a bottle.

Another American classic is the ball toss. This could very easily be set up and would make for an interesting challenge for people of all ages. You could also make this customized by putting different colors, your monograms, or anything that might fit with your theme on the cans.

Giant Jenga is something that my family already does together when we have the opportunity. You could also write funny things to do on each Jenga piece. So whoever pulls out that piece has to do whatever it says on the piece. These could be funny challenges like do the chicken dance, or walk and quack like a duck for 30 seconds.

And last but not least something for people of all ages. This checkers board could be set up anywhere and would be a fun game for anyone to play. This board/blanket I believe is available on Amazon and you could make the checkers out of plates and paint them your two wedding colors to follow along with the theme you have.

DIY Canvas Prints

For Christmas Jarr and I decided to put some of our engagement picture on canvas's and give them to our mom's and grandparents. We looked into the cost of getting them printed and then we quickly decided we could make them ourselves for a fraction of the cost. So today I'm going to share with you how to DIY Canvas Prints. We did this with a 11X14 poster print and 11x14 canvas.

The first step was ordering poster prints, so I looked around and found the  most affordable prints at Wal-Mart. I ordered them online by uploading my pictures, then I could decide if I wanted color, black and white, or any of the other options that they offered. I then had them printed to my local Wal-Mart and picked them up. This was much easier then I thought it would be and the prints were really good quality. 

My next step was painting the edges of my canvas's black so they would look like they had frames around them. I thought black would look best in any home but you could easily do this any color to match your decor.

Or you could go to Michael's after you painted all your canvas and realize that they have black canvas you can buy. But whatever you want to do is fine. 

My next step was deciding how to trim these bad boys. Even though you think the print and canvas will be the exact size for some weird reason they are not. They need to be trimmed some on the top and one side. So after a few trial and error's by Jarr and me we finally decided to just go with an old goody. Carefully trim off a little bit at a time on each side. This was a challenge and very time consuming but the easiest way we found. 

So I just took my sweet time and carefully trimmed it all up. After the first one you become more comfortable, it just takes a slow and steady hand. 

My next step was putting mod podge all over the canvas, I didn't do this thick, just a thin layer that covers everything. After I placed the print on their I smoothed it all out with my hands and tried to get any bubbles out that I could feel. 

My next step was putting weight on the canvas's so that they would dry and attach well. I put books on some of them and several different things I could find around the house. I did this overnight and the next morning they all seemed to be attached very well. 

I think that they turned out quite well. The edges held down and the cornered didn't peel up on any side. I am very happy with the way these prints turned out and think this was great for our home and they turned out as wonderful gifts for our mom's and grandma's.

Upholstered Chair Love

As we are moving and getting ready to by a house in the next few months I have been looking at new living room furniture. Now I have this chair that I got at a second hand shop, it needs some TLC. It has wood arms and has been around the block a time or two so its needs a little bit of work on the arms and legs. But I think it could be a gorgeous chair if it is redone and I am looking at these gorgeous chairs for inspiration.

First I love that she left the wood alone on this chair. The only thing she changed was the actual fabric. Second, I love that the fabric on this chair is a feed sack, I think that is such a cool idea and it is neutral. Third, Miss Mustard Seed is amazing and I pretty much love all of her furniture so there's that also.

On the other hand I really like this bold pattern. I think the floral design of this chair is gorgeous and it works really well with the dark wood. Its the perfect contrast, I also like how the fabric on the arms is a different print but its not too much.

Speaking of contrasting fabric I really like this chair. I'm not sure I am brave enough to do two patterns like this but I really like how they are the same color and they go so well together. I think this is very well done.

Now this is definitely more my speed. I really like how she has done the pattern on the inside and the solid on the outside. I think this is great and the nail head trim is amazing. I really like this chair and think this is great inspiration for my chair.

The painted wood on this chair is something I'm thinking about, the wood on my chair has been compromised and needs a little rework so I think this is a great option. I really like the color that were chosen on this chair and the gray is wonderful. Also she PAINTED the fabric! I mean how cool is that and is looks awesome!

Peaks, Pits, Praises, and Prayers

This week we have been preparing for a garage sale and working on wedding things. We are going to try and get our invitations out on Monday and my goal is to have all of the flowers, my garter, and some decor for the wedding finished by the end of the week. So far I have the flowers all finished and will be posting a DIY Wedding Bouquet post next week. We are getting really close to the wedding and moving and changing everything and its starting to get a little crazy around here.

Peaks- We have gotten so much accomplished this week! We are packing up the house, working on wedding stuff, and getting ready for a garage sale bonanza. I am so proud of all we have gotten done though, its been a very productive week.

Pits- Everything is getting boxed up and it  makes our house look less like a home and more like a boring rental. It's slightly depressing to go home to a place that doesn't look like your home but it will be so nice when everything is ready to move and we don't have to worry about last minute packing.

Praises- We had AMAZING wedding showers the last two weekends and got so many wonderful things from our friends and families. We are definitely beyond blessed with love and support.

Prayers- That Jarr does good on his finals and doesn't stress too much about everything. That our garage sale goes well and we can get rid of a lot of our things we don't need anymore. That the move and new transition goes well and we can all stay stress free and as calm as possible.

Sleeping Oasis

I don't know about you but one of the most important room in my house is where the snoozing is going on. I like comfortable bedrooms with relaxing colors that will make it easy for me to take a nice long sleep in. I am a big fan of sleeping and as many who tell you will know if I could take a nap everyday I would. So I have found some gorgeous bedrooms that I am majorly lusting over. I would love to have some of these gorgeous rooms at my future house. Maybe I could convince one of these lovely room creators to come decorate my house? Maybe?

Now I really love this room, the gorgeous floors, that amazing rug and the white bedding. Not to mention the candles and the perfect lamps on the night stands. BUT in my house let me tell you how this would go, muddy paws (aka Remy) would come and run all over that rug and jump on the bed and roll around, turning them both a lovely shade of mud brown. The candles on the floor, Eli would totally try to play with the flame and catch himself on fire. IF I could manage to keep Eli off of the night stand the lamps also might survive.

Now this is the kind of bedroom girls dream about. That view, man I would love to have that view every day. I really love the benches at the end of this bed also, how cute are those! I am also a huge fan of the curtains because lets be real, who wants light shining in on them during their precious sleep time? Not this girl, heck no that just ticks me off. Again I am a fan of the white bedding but I just don't know if I'm brave enough for it yet.

I look at this room and one word comes to mind, COZY. Now this bedding I think I could get away with. It is a nice shade of tan that would work well with muddy paws. I really like her night stands also. The mirrored sides is really neat and I would love to have a piece like that in my room.

I am really digging this headboard. I don't think I would use black like they have but the tuffs, man I could definitely get down with that. I also like this bench and how it could be used for storage, I don't think you can ever have enough storage. And once again I am loving that they have curtains up.

I really like the colors in this room, I don't think I would pick those darker shades to put on walls but I really like it here. I never would have thought this would work so well together. I also LOVE the throw blanket on this bed, I am a HUGE fan of big knit blankets like this, my future MIL has one and I snatch it every time we go to their house. I really like how this room has a variety of textures, the sparkle pillows, the throw, the comforter, and the headboard all are different but go together.
