Selfie Sunday

Summer has been crazy for us like everyone I'm sure. It's a day late and a dollar short but we just got back from a small weekend vacay so it's technically my Sunday still.

My sweet Remy is getting so big! This princess is in obedience school and almost 55 pounds!

I got a few photos of my babies snuggling together and napping. I'm so happy with my little family and fur-babies.

Selfie Sunday

This weekend we went and watched Jarr's younger brother play in an All-Star football game and we got home last night at about 3:30. So today we slept in, ran a few errands, did laundry, and I made some goodies for Jarr to take back with him for work this week.

He's doing an internship about 5 hours away from home so we only get to see him on the weekends. I'm so thankful that I get the weekends though. It might be all summer but at least it's only 5 days at a time.

Remy's new favorite toy is a laundry basket.

Both of my babies are snuggle bugs.

Selfie Sunday

Today has been a day of snuggling with my fur babies and playing outside.

I love spending time with my babies.  Remy got spayed on Thursday and had a little hernia removed from her belly so she is a little cone head for a few weeks until she gets all healed up.  She has been so good though and I'm so proud of her.

Life is Bittersweet

This week my little sister graduates high school. She is finally all grown up and about to venture into the real world. Well in the last week she has had numerous banquets and assemblies to celebrate the end of her school year and senior year. I have attended everything I possibly could and have enjoyed watching her celebrate her accomplishments with my mom and grandma.

Well yesterday was her senior assembly. We are from a small town so this is a big deal, everyone’s families come and the whole high school gets out to come. It’s all about the seniors and their achievements as well as the many memories they have from over the years. The assembly was great and she received some scholarships. It was nice to watch the slideshow of their school careers and see them as little baby Kindergartners to Seniors now.

This is us after senior assembly yesterday.

If you don’t know about my family and life you can read about it in About Me. In short though my father isn't really in the picture anymore. For the last four years since he married his new wife he is checked out of our lives. The sucky part about this is that I have 3 sisters, my youngest sister is only my half-sister and we share the same dad. Her mom is totally out of the picture, which is a different story, so she lives with our dad and his wife. She is one grade below my sister that is graduating, they play sports together, are in the same clubs and activities, and they have a good relationship.

Me, my sister, and mom at her basketball senior night this year.

This is where it gets tricky though, my father will come to all of the events my youngest sister is in and will cheer for her but not my other sister. He pretends she doesn't exist and completely ignores her. So this week as her senior week and having all of her final banquets and assemblies he hasn't been to one. Yesterday he missed senior assembly, he missed Baccalaureate on Sunday and her Academic banquet on Monday night.
Although we all pretend that everything is fine and we don’t mind how things are with our family sometimes that just isn't the case. In the process of cutting us out of his life my father has missed my sister’s entire high school career. All those games, assemblies, practices, camps, banquets, and memories he missed.

Anyway, my little sister is upset. She is pretty good at hiding it but yesterday after senior assembly she was extremely upset that he didn't show up. This made my mom upset, because she can’t fix this, there is nothing that anyone can do that he doesn't care or want to be a part of our lives. This situation is making all of senior week very bittersweet for my family.

Now, my dilemma is what do I do if he shows up to graduation and then comes to her after party? She sent him an invitation and who knows if he will show up but what do I do if that happens. I can honestly say that I don’t want to be nice, I have some pretty choice words I would like to use to get him to leave. My older sister is livid and I know will say something if he shows up.

So what do you think? What would you say? I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Selfie Sunday

This weekend was full of moving Jarr and lots of driving. My little ones are both missing day but glad to be home.

Remy likes to use all of her toys as pillows.

Here's another one of her laying in the backseat.

Eli had a lot of fun helping us pack.

Peaks, Pits, Praises, Prayers

Well it was finals week for me and Jarr so this week has been a little rough. We haven't had much sleep and we are both pretty worn out. Today is our last real day together until he comes back at the end of the summer. I have to work all day and then we move him tomorrow. It will be good for us in the long run, last summer this was good for our relationship. It really helped us appreciate the time that we did have together and to value that time more. We spent a lot less time on our electronics when we were together and a lot more time actually together. So for this week here are my top peaks, pits, praises, and prayers.

Sweet Remy staying up with me while I finish my last paper, she is worn out from her doggie daycare interview.

Peaks: Finals are OVER!!!! Woooohooooo I cannot express my relief to be done with school for the year. We both had some really tough classes so this is a nice break for us.

Pits: That means that Jarr leaves tomorrow for the summer. He will only be 4 1/2 hours away but we both work full time and we won't know what his weekend schedule will ever be like so it could be a long time without seeing each other.

Praises: I passed my hardest class! I was really worried about passing it because I'm going to be honest, Spanish is not my forte. Three semesters of it and now I am finally done. I cannot thank the Lord enough for helping me get through that.

Prayers: For my sanity this summer, I will be at home all summer with the fur babies by myself. This will be a first with Remy. She is a handful at 5 months as a German Shepherd but she really is a good puppy. I just hope she stays that way when dad is gone and mom is really in charge. We will find out who the real alpha is this summer.

Doggie Daycare

I mentioned on Selfie Sunday that Jarr is going to be leaving for the summer for an internship. He will be moving 4 1/2 hours away so we will only be seeing him on the weekend. So we have decided as a family that since Remy is so young, she's only just now 5 months old, we don't want her staying home alone all day. I commute an hour one way everyday for work so she would be home for nearly 10 hours a day by herself.

Well, our little princess really is a great puppy. She naps pretty often, she doesn't chew anything up that isn's her toys, and she loves to snuggle, I think she is a great puppy. But, I just can't justify leaving her home alone all day by herself, so we are looking into doggie daycares.

Every day little girl will ride with me half way to work and I will take her to school. Then she will spend her day getting to play with other dogs her size and age while I'm at work. This way she gets exercise and love while I can't do it.

Tomorrow we are going for an interview to see if she fits in with the day care and if they have enough room for her. I think they are going to love her just as much as we do.

Do you have any questions, suggestions, or advice about doggie daycares? This is all brand new for us.

What is your advice on doggie daycares?

Grown up Presents

Sometimes its nice to buy yourself an amazing gift just because you have worked hard and you deserve it. One of the things I want to do on my 30 Before 30 challenge is buy myself a Mac. I finally did it! Since I'm a college student I was able to go through our IT store on campus and get a really good discount. I used that and money I have saved and finally did it!

This is it! I got to take off the plastic and set it all up which was really fun to do. For me this is the best part of getting something new. I LOVE pulling off the plastic and setting it all up. It's really excited for me.

Of course Eli is a HUGE fan and he loves to sit on top of it and play. He thinks it's so fun to help mom.

I'm a freak about making sure my stuff is taken care of and doesn't get messed up so Jarr got me a cover for the outside and the key board as a present. He's the best!

The blog looks so good on my new beauty! I am soooo glad that I finally splurged on myself and got it. I love this beauty, she is great!

Mirror Up-cycle

I found this mirror at a thrift store for $7. The hanger was broken on the back and the corners were a little scuffed up. It was definitely a fixer upper but I loved that the frame was solid wood and it's a BIG mirror. I knew there was no way I could find this big of a mirror without a large price tag so I snatched it up and went to work.

In a moment of genius I thought I'll put this newspaper down and then tap the corners and stick it al a little under the edges so I don't get any paint drip. This seemed like a great idea at the time. It definitely worked and there was no pain on the mirror at all. Getting the tape and newspaper out from between the frame and mirror was nightmare. I had to use an exacto knife for a lot of it. I would definitely not recommend doing this. Just stick the newspaper under the frame and be careful when painting.

First I used a white base coat because the wood is really dark. It took two base coats with how dark the wood was but I did really light coats and it seemed to work well.

After my base coats I used a grey-blue paint I got a free quart of at Ace. I love this color and I have it on a few different pieces in my living room so it worked out perfect that I used it on this mirror.

Then of course I distressed the frame and showed off the great lines and the original wood color. You can also see some of the white base coat show through in some spots which I love. To fix the hanger on the back I just bought some wire at Ace and used the attachment pieces already on the back of the mirror. All it took was some wire cutters and pliers to get the wire secure on the hangers. This mirror is very heavy to we had to make sure it was put into a stud. I would definitely suggest always putting heavy items into a stud. This is a very important safety precaution.

I think this mirror turned out great. It looks wonderful on my wall above our love seat. Now just to make something to go on each side of the mirror. It needs some accent pieces.

What do you think I should put on each side of the mirror?

Craft Show Set-Up

A few weeks ago I went to a craft show and set up some of my furniture and crosses. I have made a few different pieces for this show and changed my set up so I thought y'all might like to see it.

This is a gorgeous antique old round table I found and just refinished the top of. On top of it is one of my large crosses.

These are some old window frames I found and I put some hooks on them and added some wire mesh to the back so I could hang my pieces on them. I think they look really cool with the rest of my furniture and they go well with the theme of my booth.

These three pieces are my favorite in the booth this weekend. I love the sign "Be Still" because that is one of my favorite Bible verses. The read coat rack is gorgeous and I think it would be a great piece in someone's house by their front door or in a mud room. I also love this old antique yellow piece of furniture. It is made of solid wood and it such a great sturdy piece.

These are some more of my crosses and another coat rack that I absolutely love the handles on. Those handles are just great and I think they really add something special to this piece.

This sign wasn't quite ready for this show. It still needed to be distressed some before it made its first showing but I couldn't help but take it. I love this gray coffee table and its gorgeous legs.

What do you think of my craft show set up? Any tips, tricks, or things you would like to suggest I do?
